What is 5-APB?
5-APB or 1-benzofuran-5-ylpropan-2-amine, was developed in the 1960’s as a variant of 6-APDB. David E. Nichols developed 5-APB while attempting to identify a non-neurotoxic MDMA analogue. 5-APB’s chemical structure implies it would act as an agonist to the Seretonin receptor 5-HT2C. 5-APB is a research chemical which is very much in demand following the interest shown for 6-APB.

What is 5-APB used for?
5-APB would be useful, in vitro (outside living organism), for receptor profiling. As 5-APB’s structure would indicate seretonin receptor binding; researchers could apply 5-APB to a membrane infused with 5-HT2C receptors, and measure the affinity and duration of action it has upon them in vitro.

5-APB may be used as a reference sample for GC/MS, FTIR, HPLC or NMR analysis for addition into a chemistry library of novel chemicals, or to be used by toxicologists and forensic scientists. 5-APB may also be used as a reagent for chemical testing.
