Etizolam is an analogue of the commonly prescribed class of drugs known as Benzodiazepines. Etizolam falls into the thienodiazepine class, this is because it has a thiophene ring instead of the benzene ring found in commonly prescribed pharmaceuticals such as Valium (diazepam). Due to its analogous properties to benzodiazepines, Etizolam’s theoretical in vivo (in a living organism) profile would include amnesic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant properties. Many researchers use Etizolam instead of Pyrazolam as its affinity is slightely different.

Once bound, Etizolam acts as a full agonist to the GABAA receptor, which then decreases neuronal activity. Etizolam is a suitable chemical for research alongside chemicals such as Pyrazolam.
